We spoke with Jose about his trading plan, insights, and lessons gained while trading in the markets and our platform as a funded trader.

Tell us a little bit about you.
I am a doctor who is also a born-again, Bible-believing Christian. I developed an interest in the market since the early 2000’s. Initially, I lost money in Penny stocks and then tried Binary Options for 3 years from 2014. I suffered huge losses due to scam companies. Then, I moved to Forex in 2017, but I mostly had losses. I started to trade with 2 major Prop firms from 2021 onwards but lost again, mainly due to the 30 day window for the evaluation 1. Finally came to the the5ers in December 2022 which was a God sent miracle.
How long have you been trading?
I have been trading since 2014. But trading Forex since 2017 and trying prop firms since 2021. I am a part-time trader.
Briefly describe your Trading Plan and how it contributes to your success.
As mentioned earlier, I have had numerous failures until recently. But I have learnt great lessons from them as well. My trading plan involves focussing on fewer currency pairs (I only trade 3-4 pairs for the most part) and do not trade metals/indices. I am a trend trader/ scalper. I do both fundamental and technical analysis and usually trade a single pair at one time. Using stop loss for every trade, exiting a losing trade early on, protecting the account first, being patient, avoid news trading etc are some of the valuable lessons that have contributed to my success.
Please share with us a challenge you faced in your trading career and how you overcame it.
Being a victim of scam binary option companies was the biggest challenge that I have faced overall. With regards to trading Forex, I did not have much of a success for 3-4 years and kept trying with Prop forms for 3 years before I saw success. Perseverance due to my faith in God is how I overcame those challenges.
How did you adjust risk management to your trading personality?
I decided to trade with the trend and not to overtrade. Also, I decided to use stop loss for every trade, whether it was required or not. Instead of trading multiple pairs, I decided to focus on 3-4 currency pairs mostly. I avoid news trading for the most part and also do not trade indices and metals.
Unrealistically moving stop-loss is something that hurt me in the past and I decided that protecting the account has to be a priority. Cutting losses early is another lesson.
Describe a key moment in your trading career
Getting funded with a 60K High Stakes account and a 250 K Bootcamp account are some of the high points in my trading career. Both happened in February 2024. I was also able to scale up the HS once already.
How long does it take to become a consistent trader, and what aspects did you change that helped you become consistent?
I still have a long way to go for that. As mentioned earlier, these 2 months of success took me nearly 7 years of painful trials.
What is your mental/psychological strength, and how did you develop it?
I am a Bible-believing Christian. Prayer and dependence of God gives me strength and is the key to my success. I do Bible studies online and that also keeps me motivated.
What was your strategy to successfully pass The5ers’ evaluation?
Trend trading, using stop loss for all trades, focussing on 3-4 currency pairs mostly, protecting the account, cutting loses early, avoiding news trading/ indices/ metals and lots of patience.
How is trading for The5ers different from trading by yourself?
The5ers provided with a reliable platform with excellent support staff. The rules that the company has in place made me a disciplined trader. I would not have been able to come up with such a large funding capital by myself. The5ers also gave me a sense of community and valuable lessons. The online interviews have been a great blessing as well.
What would you recommend to someone who is just starting with us?
Be patient. Do not overtrade and quick success is just a fantasy. Have a clear strategy in place and learn from every loss. Risk management and perseverance are very important. When you suffer losses, please do not try to recover everything quickly. Take a break and come back the next day. Constantly make improvements, and sooner or later, you too will make it.
